A Plead Formatted into Books

Through the publishing of the art,A Negro Digest for a Weary Heart, Gates had promoted the unique usage of how stories were told and wanted to be reached by others. This particular art represents cries and tears of help that are organized through the form of books. Each cry, word, and phrase has one book that continues on lining the books up from A Negro Digest for a Weary Heart. The outline of the cries for help have been developed as a timeline. This piece of art relates to Gates’ work as a whole because Gate’s original objective was to reach communities to create a better and more indulgent community by bringing their cries, their stories, and reforming it into something better. This art in fact was one of the help that Gate’s wanted to open light up to. Connecting to difficulties that were present and needed attention.

The artist's formal choices enhance the works' meaning in the form of having the words add up to a prayer, the books formatted from numbers leading the audience to have focus on every phrase that carried a meaning fitting into the puzzle of one single objective or primary necessity. The material in fact was shiny leather, it was a composition of a bible. Again, enhancing the need of importance, attention, and solutions of an innocence carried into the light. Generally exposing the depth pleading that was occurring.
