Grey Art Museum

The art work that I chose was the Songs of the islands: Concrete music from New York (1996-1998) by Nina Katchadourian. What first attracted me was the fact that the artist used cassette strings she found at random to create art. I was also able to listen to a mix of the music she found which I felt made it more playful and creative. She also arranged the cassette strings to show the areas and places she found them, kind of like a map. It just connected with me and showed how you could use whatever at hand to create something fun and diverse, reflecting on all the different cultures and languages of people around us through music.
