AWAW At The Grey Museum

My name Ivana Prado and the piece that interested me the most at the Grey Art Museum was Valeska Soares’ For To (X), 2017. This piece held my interest because it was a thought looking through a timeline and seeing those who were inspirations for literature. This piece was made up of vintage dedication pages of countless books that Soares gathered over two years. When doing research on this paper I learned Soares had done multiple pieces similar to this except with more focused dedication pages. Some of her pieces were solely focused on significant others while other pieces focused on parents and friends. This is one of her bigger pieces and was inspired by the embodiment of love and appreciation through countless time periods. This piece spoke to me because of that same reason; love and admiration are a universal language. All of these dedication pages were from different time periods, countries, and languages, yet still held the same value at its core. Many of these dedication pages were written about mothers and fathers’ that have supported these writers. Other pages were meant for significant others that are the muse to many of these books. Other pages were dedicated to lost loved ones that shaped the writer into who they are. While writers have accomplished their work being published, these dedication pages show the inspiration of these significant figures. While skimming through these dedication pictures I came to the idea that all of the greatest literary works of all time have in some ways been inspired or dedicated to someone significant in the author's life.
