Listening to Bone Score

Julianne Swartz's Bone Score (Paper Zero) (2016) is a fragile, hanging sculpture made of abaca paper, wire, and magnets that responds quietly to sound. What originally sparked my interest was the strange combination of subtle movement and weak sound. The delicate motion of the piece of paper in response to whispers, a child's laugh, and other noises around it. The installation represents both artwork and execution, creating feelings with both visual form and sounds. I was moved by how quiet and effective it was.
