A walk through AWAW

My experience was different to say the least. I have never been to a museum before and using a women museum as my first experience was the best choice. It expanded my believe that women can do as much as men and even more. while walking through the gallery it was really difficult to choose only one art piece as they all took a piece of my heart however the one that stood out to me was the one done by Senga Nengudi "untitled". The reason why this specific work stood out is because it emphasized womanhood in a space that was made for women by women. It incorporated a garment that is worn by female to represent formality but the use of the material was to highlight something else. The art piece is basically a stocking "pantyhose" stretched in different directions. It sounds simple but the meaning is huge. It represents how bodies especially women’s bodies change during things like pregnancy, aging, or even just daily life. It brought connection, being a woman myself and the fact that i could immediately relate. What I learnt was that it was not just an art piece but the artist would interact with the piece to show moving and add a sense of life.
