Sculptures in Brooklyn

If the public sculptures we visited were pins on a digital map it would create a sense of fun; adventure, hence, they are pins on a map to be located; reached. Doing so brings more people together, so the ideal theme to connect them all would be community, history too, since it’s being learnt here. The two sculptures I favored the most whilst on this trip would have to be The Sky’s the Limit in the Country of Kings, A tribute to the Notorious B.I.G by Sherwin Banfield and Hank Willis’s Unity sculpture. I believe both of these sculptures represent power, togetherness. They show Brooklyn as a whole, how we can all come together and unite as one “spread love it’s the Brooklyn way” that line comes from a well known Biggie song, Juicy!  Despite these two pieces being made for two different purposes, they both relay similar messages; success, respect, power, strength, and again togetherness. The biggie sculpture has beautiful colors and details. It’s pretty tall, he has a crown on and is holding a heart in one hand. The unity sculpture is very large, and points upwards to the sky. Nevertheless, both of these sculptures are absolutely breathtaking! In contrast, we can see the change that’s happened over time with the other sculptures; the history behind them, it’s meaning, what they represent, they each differ from one another and we can see the evolving culture and changes as time goes on and the similarities some may share. Questions about placement may be raised, like why are some sculptures facing each other, is there a reason for that? Or location, why this specific area? What's its significance?
